Fraud Investigation
There are all sorts of quoted figures relating to the amount of insurance fraud, including its annual cost to the industry. However, the perennial dilemma remains - how to spot fraud in the first place, and then how to successfully investigate and prosecute the perpetrator.
In the course of the routine insurance enquiries entrusted to Prospect Claims, we sometimes unearth a likely fraud, and we then, of course, pursue enquiries with all the vigour and expertise available to us.
We do not have a monopoly in identifying fraud, and we are pleased to record that many of the claims handlers working for our instructing principals retain the good old fashioned ‘nose for a wrongun’.
Under the general heading of fraud investigation, Prospect have been instructed on numerous claims, and across various policy types. Each case is different, and our approach to investigation varies accordingly. However, with judicious use of background enquiries, coupled with the investigative skills of our field force, our in-house claims technicians can boast several successes.
We are forever mindful of the serious nature of a fraud accusation, and continually bear in mind the high burden of proof, which lays somewhere close to ‘beyond reasonable doubt’. However, with our clients’ support we will, where appropriate, make the necessary complaint to the police authorities, and we will also pursue insurance contractual remedies where they exist.
